American Society of Women Accountants New Orleans Chapter
ASWA is a professional not-for-profit organization founded in 1938 in Indianapolis to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting. The New Orleans chapter was sponsored by the Atlanta chapter in 1958 and began with 21 members, 10 of whom were Certified Public Accountants. Today we have about 100 members who meet once a month, usually on the fourth Wednesday, at various restaurants in the area. Special monthly meetings include Student Activities, Public Relations, a Christmas luncheon each December, a joint meeting with the Association of Governmental Accountants, an annual membership drive and wine tasting, and an Officer Installation luncheon in June. In the past, the chapter has served the New Orleans community by volunteering at Celebration in the Oaks, the WYES Showboat Auction, the AARP Tax Aide program, the Red Cross Humanitarian Ball, and by supporting Dress for Success, an international organization that provides business attire to women for job interviews.
